Making Complex Schematic Part, any Tips?
« on: October 26, 2012, 06:40:21 pm »
Just installed the demo a few days ago, so still trying to wrap my head around the flow of Altium.  I'm trying to evaluate before my new company drops the cash on it.

Any tips or tutorials for making a complex part, such as 450+ ball BGA ARM processor?

Creating the PCB footprint was pretty easy, once I thought about making all balls and deleting, rather than trying to make the inside square and outside ring.  (Kind of a duh, once I thought about it.  :)

I've converted ball names (this is alpha style, A1, AA23, etc.), pin names, electrical, and a few other fields into Excel.  I'm looking at a multi part object and creating pins with Smart SchList Paste.  Is that the best method of doing this, or am I missing a better way?

Have you watched http://altiumvideos.live.altium.com/#Detail/1170 ?

If the above link fails, navigate to..

Smart Grid Paste and Smart Grid Insert make creation of new components very fast and easy. See how to add component pins straight from a data sheet.
