Board cutout in gerber
« on: January 12, 2015, 10:05:02 am »
How can I include the board cutout in the generated Gerber files ? the Gerber files does not including the cutout data. I tried to put manual closed line in mech layer1, but the result is the same.

Define the area with a Region, and select Board Cutout.  It should appear on the same output layer as the outline, usually Keep-Out (.gko).  It might not hurt to start with an outline on K-O and make the 'cutout' region from it.  If you have any questions, ask your board fab to verify with you before printing.

Ah - warning! Check with the fab on the size of the tool that will cut that! It'll round those corners wide and then you'll be pissed off. You might want to tweak the shape of that cutout a bit... ;D

Right, the router doesn't carve out the shape you specify, the center of the router bit follows the path you provide.  So, add the width of the router bit to the size of the path to get the final hole size.

This actually isn't true for most pcb manufacturers. They will do their own milling paths which fit best INSIDE your board cutout. You don't have to take the tool radius in consideration.
