Using Multiboard with non pcb components
« on: August 23, 2020, 04:51:21 pm »
Hi,
I started working with the multiboard tool in Altium.  It looks handy.  I would like to be able to connect external components that are not PCB's.  Is there a way to do that?  For instance a commercial power supply.

Thanks
Andy

I'll answer my own question.  It looks like you can only connect boards together.  To bad.  Maybe that will be in release 21.  :)   :-//

If you want to use the multiboard workflow to put a power supply into your design then just make a tiny board that is hidden inside a 3D step model of the power supply, then import that.

Not sure if it has been added later, but I'm using 20.1.14 and have "Insert STEP Part..." available when assembling the boards in .MbaDoc.
