#344 - discussion on teens interested in engineering..
« on: September 24, 2017, 02:32:49 pm »
This discussion reminded me about what happened to me when I was that age.     I recall reading a book called "Listen to the Leaders in Engineering" and that led me thinking of going in that direction.   I had in interest as I built electronic kits and had a Ham Radio license in Junior High (6th grade or so)   However, my folks actually discouraged  me from that direction (engineers don't make good money) and pointed me in the direction of my other interest, the financial markets.    So what happened,   I went to a top University program in Finance/Accounting worked in that field for three years and ended up returning to school for a Masters in Computer Science.    I've been working as a software person (QA for a few years, for the past 20 odd years development.) Recent interest in IoT has refired up my interest in the hardware side and I've been enjoying the Amp Hour  podcasts and David's videos.
