In this discussion, Dave and Chris argue that Science is only made by big teams now, and that there will not be major discovery made by lone individuals or small team, but
this is not right, as even very recently, major discovery has been made by small teams.
As an example,
The Nobel prize of Physics 2010 was awarded to Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov for their discovery of graphene.

This was really a major discovery of a small science team, with a low cost experiment. What was impressive, is the rapidity between the discovery (2004), the Nobel prize (2010), and the industrial applications.
