Dave is building something for the upcoming Sydney Mini Maker Faire in November. Whoever guesses closest to the final product gets a t-shirt from The Amp Hour! Listen to the episode where we talk about it here: http://www.theamphour.com/the-amp-hour-158-unbelievable-usb-ustulater

A quick genetic analyzer based on etched glass PCR slides and a Raspberry Pi that hangs over doorways at holiday extended-family gatherings. It samples shed skin cells/dandruff. If it rotates to the left, you're related maternally, to the right, paternally. For cousins, it swings back and forth at a rate indicating degree of consanginuity, and of course, if it bobs... he's your uncle!

I would guess it is not going to be made on a 3D printer though..........

I would say there will be a fair number of the very nice Dave Jones rulers there for grabs though.

As to what is being built for the fair, I guess it will be the final version of a USB power supply with PC monitoring of voltage and current, isolated from the source and with a battery charged from the USB port.

If I pay for shipping, can someone send me at least one of those pcb rulers? I really want one

I can imagine Dave rocking Doc Emmett Brown's mind reading hat to the Mini Maker Faire in Sydney.  I'm sure it would contain some advanced functionality that's far beyond my reckoning.

Is that T-shirt mine?

I immediately thought of a flux capacitor.

Dave would have to brush up on his glass blowing skills though.

And - if he could get it working he could whizz forward in time and see if there will ever be a home chip printing machine  ;)

No no no... You invent a chip printer and use the resulting wealth/hegemony to assure you control  the time machine with which you periodically go back in time to cancel anything that might equal you.

It's a negative feedback control system.

That's already happening which is why it hasn't been invented :)

Having listened to the podcast at work today at the dentist ( yay, no more sore tooth, and cheap as well) I will guess it will be an interactive tablet attached to the head of the cutout Dave model that will look, talk and interact a little with you, possibly powered by Dave wearing a set of Google Glass close by.

The dibs are yours  :)

And just in case Dave has not got any good flux capacitor plans here is a picture of one: http://www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/DSC_0628.jpg

An app that takes a picture of a DaveCAD style drawing and digitizes it into an Altium or EAGLE CAD file for quick prototyping/design. Or a differential probe for measuring temporal flux in a circuit. :D

Your are all wrong!! Dave is obviously going to make a 1/25th scale "Dave Jones" action figure, with an internal PIC controller in order to produce pre-recorded phrases of Australian slang every time you shake the figure... Ah at least that's better than a Barby doll!! And I am sure it will hit the 10 000 % subscription rate on Pozible. Anyhow if he's NOT making this doll, I am going to do it and make a fortune out of it!! ;-)

Hmm, he said it wouldn't work by design (or something like that) ... so I am going with an Auto-Router :)

<Crocodile Dundee>That's not a hack.</Crocodile Dundee>

Taking advantage of the Australian Government's famous weakness for special interests (still has a ways to go to equal the US, I'm afraid) Dave has persuaded the Australian Parliament to issue an Official Proclamation honoring his family for Innovation. However, he arranged for the document to make a roundtrip through a Chinese instruction manual shop before it was signed.

The resulting wording declares Sagan to be the official micro-Ruler of Australia. Prince George is said to not be best impressed, but that is likely just gas.

<Crocodile Dundee>THIS is a hack</Crocodile Dundee>

Great, a Electronic Entertainment Version of the Electronics Engineering Video Blogger.

Are you sure about that 1:25 scale? I reckon that'd make it about the size of my thumb -- but then again, those Aussies are always doing a shrink on their Barbies.

Frustrated with the lack of progress in 3D printing, Dave is going to Doc Brown over the whole mess and go straight to 4D printing.

[BTW, Dave, Since  Aug 1 the $200 Makibox has sent a dozen or so "final pre-production" units to select backers for testing. It looks like they should start ramping into full production in September.]

They already are 4d.  The 4th dimension is time.  Huehuehue

Precisely my point.

However, just because a printing process operates in 4D doesn't make it a 4D printing process.  Laser printers operate in 3D (and 4D for that matter), but their output is 2D. Governments operate in 4d, but their output is generally 1D at most.

Oh, what Dave could do with a noggin-cracking stick that reaches back into last week! (or,  a micro-ruler wielded as a traditional Catholic school knuckle-mangling rebuke) He could easily revolutionize Australian politics.

It just occurred to me that we missed the obvious: an elegant and efficient parts/test gear storage system for the electronics workbench -- Dave Jones' Locker
