240 VAC dimmer switch work with 12 VAC?
« on: January 14, 2020, 05:05:44 am »
i don't work with AC much so i don't really know anything about it.
i'm wondering if a 240 VAC dimmer switch can work with 12 VAC i have tried to find out my self but all i could find was 120 VAC with 12 VDC.
Edit: i have been told that it will not work if anyone has an idea for something that will work please tell me ( it is for heating a nichrome wire )

The trigger circuit for the TRIAC usually includes a 20 to 30 volt DIAC so it will not work on such a low AC voltage.

No, not likely because the dimmer's DIAC triggers around 32V. Like DB3
You'd have to build an extra circuit to get around this, to make a bi-directional 10V DIAC for example.
