MULTICOMP electrolytics?
« on: February 20, 2012, 09:30:18 am »
Farnell has them, and they are generally cheaper than the brand names. Are they any good, for stuff like SMPS?
Low ESR, GLR series.

Thanks!

Multicomp is not a real brand, just Farnell's badge for stuff from obscure suppliers, and the actual source may change over time.
As for suitability for a particular application, read the datasheet.

Mike's Electric Stuff: High voltage, vintage electronics etc.

Yes, I know about datasheets, but want to hear about real life experience with them  ;)

as stated above real sources change all the time so any recommendation is pointless, by the sounds of it they are no good for low esr stuff like smps

just make sure it has a specified esr, that is a starting point in determining that it is reasonably low. Often no mention of the esr means that it is to high for hi frequency work like smps

Epcos or panasonic ... Both are good  ;D
Don't forget Rubycon, Nichicon, and Nippon Chemicon, they're also known for good caps.
