A manual reset thermal cutoff switch
« on: September 15, 2020, 12:07:46 am »
Hello, I have a device I'm planning to make that will get hot after prolonged use. To prevent it from getting too hot, I would like a 80 degree celsius thermal cutoff switch that requires a manual reset. Can someone please find one that is sub-$10 USD? I am not sure if I'm naming it correctly either.

Thank you for your consideration.

How do you manually reset that?

If your device has a microcontroller you could have it monitor any of a number of different kinds of temperature sensors (digital or analog) and take appropriate action when the threshold is crossed.

Those particular thermal switches are not designed for repeated use . Like many thermal breakers they weaken quickly with repeated use . They are designed as a saftey device in case of catastrophic failure that would prevent a cool down.

I don't know what type of circuit you are making but with proper passive and /or active cooling any circuit or device need not become so hot that a saftey device trips with regular use.

It's a manual reset. A pushbutton resets it.

I don't intend for the temp cutoff to trip repeatedly, just maybe once in a blue moon if someone leaves the device on. Like a hairdryer.
