Gain chip
« on: January 21, 2021, 06:45:22 am »
Hello,

I am looking for a tunable laser diode to tune its wavelength in range of 1550nm that I found Gain-chip.
Would you tell me what is Gain-chip and what is its difference with tunable laser diode?

Thanks

A gain chip is simply a semiconductor optical gain device which is required at the heart of any solid state laser.  However a gain chip by itself is not useful as a laser, they are designed to be used in conjunction with an external cavity so you would have to add the grating, mirrors, isolator etc. and get everything aligned, not a job you could do without some fairly specialised equipment.

Over what range does the laser need to be tuned? I admit I don't know much about lasers. I would think you need to adjust the resonant frequency of the optical cavity, to tune the laser.

Again, as I asked in the other thread, what's the purpose of the project? What are you trying to achieve?

I need a tunable laser diode for my SFP modules. I have a SFP module that uses a laser diode with 1550nm wavelengths
Now I want to have another wavelengths near 1550nm for DWDM device . I want to have a tunable laser diode that I can use for every other SFP module and I just adjust it and have different wavelengths in my SFP modules

When I searched for this tunable laser I found  Gain chip and I didn't know can I use it instead of laser diode.
