Just bought a useful piece of gear and it's the old stuff analogue  Farnell TM2 AC DC Millivoltmeter - 1mv to 300v, i had one before and sold it wishing I hadn't , this one won't be sold really useful.

, Problem what problem, plenty of life left in the old stuff, and will probably out live this New digital gear, which they seem to bring out new version every 2 months or so, and your not trapped into to buying the latest money spinner called the software upgrade, which is out of date once installed, think I'm getting old & grumpy .

I like old gear because it's dirt cheap!
In my Ham Shack---err,"Lab",the only things I bought new are:

A Chinese frequency counter, at $A99(Hardly ever use it)
A  Chinese10MHz Analog Oscilloscope at $A135 (I had to fix the EHT generator,but apart from that & the knobs falling off it is still going well)
A  Chinese OHL 2m handheld transceiver at $A99,(the LCD display has failed) .
A cruddy Jaycar soldering iron at $A50 (Cruddy!!)

All of them except the 'scope,cost less than $A100 each,so I was able to swallow my principles & buy new.

All the rest of my stuff is old,such as the Tektronix 7613,which also coincidentally cost $A135.
(100 times the quality,10 times the bandwidth,way more versatile,but huge & old!)

My HF rig is a Yaesu FT301------pushing 40 years old.

All the other 'Ham stuff is a similar age--several have croaked & are awaiting repair.( Have you ever played with a 1970s Icom SMPS?--AAARRRGGGHHH!)

I used to look at those old heath ham sets with such an envious eye.

I love old hifi rigs too. To me, the old Fisher monoblock amps are the ultimate classic. They look like diesel locomotives of the era, so powerful and sleek.

I  don't have to tell you us real Radio Hams, keep the vintage stuff going , everything in my shack/lab is like me old, newest piece I was given Yaesu FT1500 , two metre, can't fugure it out yet, my main HF  rig is 30 years plus a Kenwood TS820, when I gave a months wages back them I was told it is the DXer choice , they were not wrong, in that 30 years only needed one set of tubes,and still working the DX, lovely radio.

I'm sort of too late to start this old gears hoarding collecting hobby  , and now prices are sky rocketed like crazy since past few years. 

My oldest measurement gear is from the 1969, Tektronix 2901 time mark generator.




Just love the gold plated pcb, the whole room will get a yellow golden ambience from the reflected light when shined with powerful light ...




The shiny nickel plated coils at HF section, still like new after all this years ...
