Thyristor Trigger Module questions
« on: April 02, 2020, 02:31:16 am »
hi
im looking at this Thyristor Trigger Module, AVR-25 by united automation

the datasheet seems to imply it can be used on the primary side of a transformer like a dimmer, i thought it was a no-no to put a dimmer before a transformer ?

It's unclear from the information, which does not indicate whether it's a full wave or half wave unit.  You are right that if it's half wave, using a single SCR, it will have a dc component in its output.  Full wave is better, as it controls both positive and negative so should be okay for transformers.

Having said that, they may have some clever way of doing it that eliminates such concerns.  I don't know.
