oh so David was wrong in stating that the 189II was a rebranded 289. It's technically a 287?

there is no difference between the 287 and 289 apart from the accuracy in logging?

does the 287 have LoZ?

Did the 189 II  have the same super cap leakage problem as the 289? If you arrange a meet up, I'd definitely ask to open it up.

As a buyer that seems sensible, but as a seller I wouldn't have it.

if I can convince the seller to open it up how do I check if the unit has the super cap leakage?

If you look at the photo you posted you will notice no LoZ feature. Compare your photo to mine which has a 287 in it.
This document could be a rough guide, remember there could be subtle differences between the short lived 189II and the 287.

Replying to this 8 year old question with the short answer.

The 189 uses a dedicated and custom LCD display.  The 189-II and 289 utilized a dot-matrix display that is used to supply all typical characters and specialized symbols.

The 189 II is a completely different system from the 189. The 189 II is most similar to the 289 in all regards, except the 289 having the additional temperature sensor.

The 189 has a nearly instant start up where as the 189-II and 289 boot to an entry page and require a function selection to continue.  Selecting the different functions on the 189 is very quick compared to the more complex “choice list” on the 189-II and 289.

You MAY find a nice marketing comparison in the archive documents at Fluke.

Nothing clever to read here...

I don't have the 189-II only the 189, 287 and 289. If the 189-II is the same as the 287 then it lacks Lo Z, Lo Ohms and having less memory for logging.
