I had made a video some time ago showing this Cree LED mounted to green heatsink, with no lens compared with some of our flashlights. It's pretty bright.
Saved a couple of dead house LED bulbs from the trash along with a laptop battery pack that I gutted and sorted for good cells. Taking apart the bulbs, the supplies had failed, but the LEDs were still fine. So I mounted them to a heatsink.
The reflector is the clear packing from a set of 4 D energizer cells. I cut it in half and taped the two ends together. The face cover is the clear plastic packing from some weed whacker parts. Using a small boost switcher to drive it. A 9V transistor battery will drive it.....

So here's the results of the trash picked flashlight held together with electrical tape....
Ambient is showing the camera pointed up into a tree with no lights. Flashlights were ran left to right.
FL1 is one of my first LED flashlights. Amazed at how the LEDs have changed in such a short time.
