Apologies for Wasting Bandwidth -

I think for trivial stuff, such as "What did you buy today?" I may start using imgur. Posts like that, if the pic goes away in the future it's no huge loss, and it saves a little storage space on the forum server.

Yeah, I wish there was an easier way to put the image inline.

While some members here have unlimited lightning fast internet, there are others that do not.  Being mindful of those, it is considered a courtesy that images are scaled and/or compressed before being uploaded or embedded inline.  A 4000 x 2000 pixel image of a front panel is rarely necessary.  (I have a personal rule of setting the longest side to no more than 1000 pixels, unless there is good reason.)  Good lighting and sharp focus are often more important

Where you have a series of images, it can be better to just leave the post with the thumbnails from the uploads and let members click on the ones of interest.  Also, a member might have an extended album and they host it on things like Imgur and just include a link in their post.

I use irfanview to reduce everything to a personal preference of 1024 by 768.  I will embed a couple of images.  If I am going to post more than 2, I try to remember to leave them as thumbnails.  Thankfully, I do have internet that I am satisfied with, 100 Mbps download.

I second that...
Use Irfanview and use Batch conversion/resize option if needed, or resize each image manually.

Set the largest dimension to something reasonable like 1024 or 1600 and check "Preserve aspect ratio" and Irfanview will automatically set the other dimension to the right value, so no matter if your image is landscape or portrait, you get an image that's looking right (1024x768 , 1600x1200).

JPEG with quality around 75-85 preserves enough detail for a forum.

After PB did the dirty, I looked around for other image hosting sites and boiled it down to Flicker and Imgur. What is the general feeling about these two? Or is another site favored?

I've been using 'Resize' since win98 days and it still works fine. It's a single non installing <1MB .exe with accompanying .ini file. It does single or batch drag and drop resizing. Resizes by percentage or height and width and has adjustable JPEG quality. It also automatically appends a file suffix of your choice to the resized files. I've never found anything to beat it for speed or efficiency.
