arbitrary waveform with STM32
(1/1)
Mark522:

Hello EEVbloggers,

This is my first post as I just joined the community.
I recently bought a STM32 Nucleo F767ZI board by ST Microelectronics. I am using HAL functions with Cubemx now i need to generate an arbitrary waveform. for this I have created a array of 6 words for two waveform patterns
to be send to TIM1 channel 1 using DMA (TIM1_ARR, TIM1_RCR, TIM1_CCR1) This is how the basics look uint32_t aSRC_Buffer[6] = { 2000,1,800,3000,2,200};/// ARR, RCR, CCR1.. This is the HAL function: HAL_TIM_DMABurst_WriteStart(&htim1,TIM_DMABASE_ARR,TIM_DMA_UPDATE,
(uint32_t *)aSRC_Buffer, TIM_DMABURSTLENGTH_3TRANSFERS);. this it dose not fuction and i cant see the Signal.

Some Cubemx configuration:
-System Core >> High speed Clock >> Crystal Resonsator
-TIM1 >> Clock source >> Channel 1 >> PWM Generation CH1
-Counter setting >> Parameter setting >> Prescaler=1, Period=5000
-Trigger Output(TRGO) Parameters >> Trigger Event Selection TRGO >> update Event
-PWM Generation Channel 1 >> Mode>> PWM mode 1, pulse>> 2000
-DMA>> TIM1_UP>> DMA2 Stream 5>> memory to peripheral >> Priority>> High>> Mode >> normal increment>> memory

to be honest i do not understand why should i do the following step: PWM Generation Channel 1 >> Mode>> PWM mode 1, pulse>> 2000. because i have defined the (TIM1_ARR, TIM1_RCR, TIM1_CCR1) in the buffer.
but i tried to configure this as in this link >> https://www.st.com/content/ccc/resource/technical/document/application_note/group0/91/01/84/3f/7c/67/41/3f/DM00236305/files/DM00236305.pdf/jcr:content/translations/en.DM00236305.pdf
capital 5 Arbitrary waveform generation using timer DMAburst feature and because i am using Cubemx and HAL-Functions i do not really know how to programm with STM32 standard library. and in the main.c i can not see the DMA-configuration.
i just see:

static void MX_DMA_Init(void)
{
  /* DMA controller clock enable */
  __HAL_RCC_DMA2_CLK_ENABLE();

  /* DMA interrupt init */
  /* DMA2_Stream5_IRQn interrupt configuration */
  HAL_NVIC_SetPriority(DMA2_Stream5_IRQn, 0, 0);
  HAL_NVIC_EnableIRQ(DMA2_Stream5_IRQn);

}

could someone please help. i am trying since 4 days but without sucsesss.

thanks in advance.

MosherIV:
Hi Mark
Welcome to the forum.
You are correct in that you do not need to enable or use the PWM peripheral (technically I think it is the timer peripheral in PWM mode).
You need to enable the DAC peripheral if the microcontroller has one.
Then you configure the io pin to alternal function DAC output.
DMA needs to be routed to the DAC peripheral.
The DAC peripheral needs to be configured to output from the DMA buffer.
I havd never done this before, just read about it in the DMA section and DAC section of the user guide.
The user guides tell you how to use each peripheral at register level ie understand how the device does things.
The user guide is NOT a API guide to the cube library - sorry you just have to rely on understanding the device peripherals and then hope the comments in the Cube library are self explanitory.
