Help Identifying battery
« on: April 25, 2022, 12:58:22 am »
Hello,

I have a battery that I removed from something quite a while ago. I don't remember what it was removed from.

I want to re-use the battery but I'm not sure if it is a rechargeable battery or not.
The battery isn't labelled with the battery chemistry.

When I google what looks like the model number, I get zero results. When I google the voltage/capacity information I get mixed results.

Battery markings:
Nb19350cx 1100mAh 4.07Wh
>barcode<
+C2112002197063.  3.7V-

Is there anyway to figure out what kind of battery this is, or if it is rechargeable or not?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading

Batteries like this are always rechargeable. Thought they are quite dangerous to recharge without the proper equipment.

This is most likely a lithium polymer/lipo battery. Don't recharge them unless you absolutely know how to.

Also- the little gadget on the left of the photo looks like an electret microphone element if this triggers your memory.  Was it from some kind of voice or sound activated gadget?

I maybe wrong, but that LiPo pouch looks puffed.
If it is puffed up, it is potentially dangerous.
Where are we going, and why are we in a handbasket?

I honestly don't remember what the battery was taken out of, but yeah I'm pretty sure that's a microphone.

Battery isn't puffed up at all, it's a round battery so it probably just looks like that in the photo.

How are you able to recognize/identify it as a rechargeable battery. I.e. what are the identifying features.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies

The voltage, 3.7V. The package, polimer packaging is typically Litium chemistry.

Do you think it is possibly 19 mm diameter and 35 mm long?  :D

Could it have been a vaping device?
Big Clive tore down a couple of them, and several had a pressure sensor that looked very much like an electret microphone.

It's definitely from a vaping device. The battery in the picture attached to the original post, appears to be in decent condition. If it feels firm and isn't squishy and measures > 2.5V then its probably good. The battery capacity is probably around 500mAh. If Charge it at 50mA, until the voltage reaches at least 3V, then increase the current and stop charging when the voltage hits 4.1V. Don't charge above 4.2V

The battery capacity is probably around 500mAh.

Do you say that because you think the capacity of 1100 mAh printed on the label is overstated? Or because the cell may be worn out?

All the ones I've seen are 500mAh, but this one could be different I suppose. The only way to know is to measure the capacity.

because china has good reputation on their own metric (half the si (printed) metric) a quality brand 18650 lion is around 2600mah, that thing in OP is half the physical size, so at most it is 1000-1300mah... i havent heard a manufacturer want to put a good quality lion on a $5 non-reusable vaping device. so safest bet is its china metric. i teared down one recently with similar microphone device with its "puff triggered" led indicator like in the picture above.

Seems likely that it did come out of a vape pen. I doubt it was a rechargeable one, more likely a disposable pen. Would they have used a rechargeable battery in a disposable pen?

Thanks everyone for all the help!

It has become quite common to find these little lipo cells in disposable products with no means to charge it, all the disposable vape pens, those single use "power hit" mini powerbanks, etc. It would be my guess they're just cheaper between volume and not being built into a steel can like most disposable batteries are.

Yes. Click on the link I posted in reply #9 and watch the videos. Rechargeable lithium ion batteries in disposable vape pens is the norm.

i think its rechargable. i just need to find a way so it can be mounted on my 18650 lion charger, need some wiring and rigging. i still keep mine in case i have use for it. i also keep another small lion battery almost similar like that (just bigger) stripped out from cheap china helipad, not sure where i've put it.ps: about the puff sensor, there is one section of engineering (asic and patent) dedicated to this... https://patents.google.com/patent/US10420374B2/en i cant find the asic description now, i saw it before.

Generally, this kind of battery will not last very long.Because the internal chemicals will generate gas after prolonged use and cause swelling.
In general, I think 18650 is more suitable for long-term use
