Autodesk Eagle PCB cutouts

(1/1)

csheldon:
Hi all,

Some help for a noob here please :)

I want to be able to do two things:

1) I want a slot-like trace cutout of preffered length and shape on the pcb

2) I want to cut out piece of pcb on the edge...basically something like defining board shape..but it's not shape rather it's simple cut out.

How can I do these two things..?

Hi!
I assume you will do the cutting with a cnc?

This is normally more dependent on the the board fabricator than on the PCB editor.I would draw lines/shapes on the "routing" layer, using a width equal to my tool width.  But most board fabs seems to want an outline of the actual slot, usually in the dimension layer, sometimes with a drill hole in a starting position.   (The one time I tried to get slots (for a USB connector) done in a board, it didn't come out :-( )   Check your board vendor's web page for info on "internal milling."

usually you can do that just by modifying the "dimension" layer - there is no reason that it has to be a rectangle.
