Battery Holder for 10440 14500 16340 18650 20700 21700 26650
« on: November 07, 2024, 11:30:23 pm »
I'm asking the communities help in locating a battery holder that has a sliding spring clip to accommodate a whole range of batteries listed in the title.

Most battery holders that I see for 18650 batteries are like the black one.  That is not something that I want.

I'm looking for something like the white one,  but a holder not a charger.  Something with an adjustable spring so it can be used with a wide array of different batteries and then has 2 wires to hook up to a bench power supply.

As a last resort I can make one but the time involved is just not worth it.

Any help and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.   Thank you.

Good Morning JJ_023, How about cannibalizing that EBL charger that you  show,
or one similar.   :-//

That is a great suggestion.  I also have a machine shop so I can make my own.   But the time that all of that takes is just not worth it.  If something is commercially available it's probably going to be only a few bucks, I just can't find anything.

The closest thing that I found is a 4 wire  solution (see picture).   It would definitely work but it's just cumbersome to use and has to be constantly adjusted.  I just want a spring-loaded holder.

this one is easyly adjustable, although it's not exactly what you're searching for...

Thank you for finding that.  That is a very robust design.  Made out of aluminum with ratcheting teeth for adjustment.  They use a nonconducting bushing to separate the terminals.   They incorporated a fuse holder.   Connections look goldplated.  It's a beautiful product for sure.  Have no idea what it costs but it should be pricey based on all of that.

However it's not for me.  I prefer the simplicity of a sliding mechanism with a spring.  Also this is bulky for the purpose that I am looking to use it for.  I am looking for something the size of that holder without the board or any of the other attached peripherals.

I've searched for that also, and did not find any ! the previous idea to buy a simple charger and reuse the battery holder part is the best so far.

For just charging on the bench, I suggest using magnets.  Sticks to the battery and the alligator clips.

It's funny you would think something like this would exist.  If I go down that road I'll just create my own and machine it out of a nonconductive material with conductive inserts.

I think that's a great idea.   I have actually used this in the past.   I've even used rubber bands in a pinch.   But honestly all I really want is just a spring holder.

Hello,

I wanted the same thing many years ago but could not find anything similar.  I ended up making my own.

Some of the cheaper battery chargers with a spring loaded slide are cheaper maybe you can find a cheaper one to modify.  It might be hard though to find something for all those battery sizes.  I only needed a few sizes and it was hard to find and never found one, but that was some 10 years ago haven't really looked since then.

If nobody seems to be able to find them, including myself, I will just make one.  Probably make it out of aluminum with insulating inserts.  I dread doing this as I overcomplicate my designs and it takes me forever to finish.

I made my with a strong wood base.  3/4 inch pine.  You can make several on one piece of pine.  Can't remember where I got the spring though.
Just keep it simple, and do some good measurements first.

Hey thank you for the suggestions.  I usually will just model something in Solid Works first.  Then if I like the design I will machine everything to the specifications I come up with.
