Beginner about to use a heat gun and Kopton/Kapton question?
« on: September 19, 2020, 06:34:29 am »
Hello

I orderd 1x Kapton roll from flea Bay and it arrived as "Kopton" not "Kaptoon" even though the listing said it was Kapton.

eBay Llsting Desc: "Heat Resistant High Temperature Kapton Tape Polyimide For Mendel 3D Printer AU"

I asked the seller "Hello, this arrived and it's not Kapton tape but Kopton, it's fake. You listed this as "Kapton"????"

The seller replied with "This is the supplier telling us it's 'Kapton'. We have checked the quality of the product and there is no problem"

I replied with "I did a reverse image search for your listed images and they belong to Xiamen Aerchs Adhesive Solution Co., Ltd.not Kapton (not Dupont). Kapton is a registered trademark of "E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company."

Is this ok to use with a Heat Gun to do SMD reflow repair or is it Junk?

I suppose I can test it and see if it is ok?

Coder and electronics newbie.

If it's still proper polyimide film and the adhesive (if applicable?) is fine, yeah, it doesn't matter.  You did pay for a trademarked item however, and you are technically in the right to complain.  Probably if you report it you can get it for free (they aren't going to care about returning it).  Give or take the calculus of +/- reviews, I don't know what eBay is like these days.
