| Beginner repairing an ultrasonic cleaner |

| Cactus:
Ok folks this is my first attempt at an electronics repair. It is a ultrasonic cleaner that i think has a power supply problem. The cleaner has a main power supply board that feeds four smaller boards that power two transducers each. the mainboard also feeds the heating element for the tank. the cleaner is controlled by a control panel also fed off the main board that allows the user to vary the temperature and the time that the cleaner operates for. temperature and time functions are set with up and down buttons and switched off and on by an on/off button.. So we have 3 buttons each for temp and time. When the machine is switched on at the wall it powers up and temperature and time is displayed on the 2 LED displays. the functions can be set with the up and down buttons and the heating element can be switched on. However when you attempt to switch on the transducers the fuse blows on the main board. Disconnecting the heating element and transducers from the board makes no difference. The fuse still blows, so I am now focusing my efforts on the main power supply board. My question is how should I approach this repair? Should I simply begin testing components one by one or are there likely candidates for failure I should focus on first? I have pics of the board if they are required. Any guidance is appreciated. |

Pictures will help, but I would suspect the 4 1N4004 diodes in the ultrasonic power supply side have gone short circuit. |

I appreciate I probably didn't need to do that but I looked at the exercise as a learning and practice opportunity, and I'm glad i did it. Unfortunately due to my limited skills I managed to break a trace on the board so had that problem to overcome too. I'm pleased to report that ultrasonic power has been restored by the replacement of two diodes. A sincere thank you for your help SeanB it is appreciated. |
