Beginner repairing modern TVs
« on: May 09, 2022, 12:08:52 am »
Hi,

I have an 8yo LG 55EA9800 55" OLED, purchased at launch RRP, so I spent a small fortune on it, the picture was still great, but the display went black at the weekend, its turning "on" (I can hear the "click") but I can't see or hear anything so I guess a board is dead, can anyone point a beginner in the right direction?

Has anyone repaired here repaired a modern set like this, from googling around I can see that there is a "T-Con" board as well as a Main B/D, the service manual (for a blank screen with no sound) says "Check various voltages of Power Board (3.5V, 12V, 20V & 24V)" and if its not the PSU then replace the Main B/D.  Update: I took the back off the TV and measured 3.5V, 12V & 24V OK.

I mean I would easily pay up to $500 to get it working again, it was a great TV, its quite a delicate thing though and a bit daunting to have to move it around alone, I have a DMM, I guess I can get into the back of it to check them voltages.

Thanks.
Richard

worn, 8Y is much, processors run at max temperature they can handle  >:D
If it runs in protect mode, in diode mode test supply rails for shorts, Tcon, CPU...
abnormally hot chip may lead to right direction
