Title: Binding posts 60V 60A high quallity - help.
Post by: FriedMule on May 01, 2019, 04:47:34 pm
I have searched the net for binding posts that can take banana, bare cable and spade/fork connectors but I can't seem to find much above 36A and if, it looks like some cheap terminals that would never handle 60A or everyday usage.

Is there any brand, place or whatever to look fore, to get really quality?

Yes I saw them too but was not sure if they are okay, they do not look like the usual on the front. Not that it is bad, was just not sure.

Perhaps a look at automotive car hi-fi accessories may be a go.

I've seen some way out heavy duty binding post combos (banana, bare cable and spade/fork connectors)

with lots of metal to cope with mega amps

Maybe butcher a cheap or dumpster non working car amp for the jumbo connectors?  :-//

Good luck mate  :-+

I can't vouch for the quality, but these using M12 bolts really must be able to handle a ton: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/M12-80-pure-copper-binding-post-12mm-grounding-post-terminal-200A-high-current-4mm-banana-plug/32928798411.html?spm=2114.12057483.0.0.7ae91d0fNIaJsS (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/M12-80-pure-copper-binding-post-12mm-grounding-post-terminal-200A-high-current-4mm-banana-plug/32928798411.html?spm=2114.12057483.0.0.7ae91d0fNIaJsS)

Here you go: https://www.sks-kontakt.de/en/test-measurement/products/sockets (https://www.sks-kontakt.de/en/test-measurement/products/sockets)

The PKN models are rated to 63A. Hirschmann is top quality.

60A 60V is 3.6 kW power, it's the same as two home oil heaters powered together at max power.
So, you can use power plug from oil heaters :)

Why would you need to go higher than 30 A .Even really good quality 4mm banana plugs are only rated for 30A at best .Even if you connected heavier wire the plug itself is still a weak link. I would just go with  high amp binding post and skip the banana feature altogether if your planning on using more than 30 Amps on a regular basis.

I am thinking of the Keysight 6032A 60V 50A = 1200W Power Supply and an other I have 15V 60A = 1000W Power supply

I will rarely need 60A but I'd rater that the connections can handle max without getting burnt cables, on the other hand, banana plugs are what I use most for the lower ampage and a binding post that can both, would be wary nice. :-)
