| Black powdery residue after changing tip |
| (1/1) |
| fixit7:
When I changed my tip to a different type on my Chinese copy of a Hakko, I saw a small amount of black powdery residue that came out. I have used the soldering around 50 times. Is that part of a carbon rod? I plan on getting a better iron that actually maintains the right temp. Thanks, Andy |

That's just oxide accumulation, very normal. Clean it up for best results, as it's not as good a heat conductor as metal. In the long run it can build up enough to make the iron less effective. |
