Bought an old oscilloscope for cheap, but how do I use it ?!
« on: February 05, 2015, 06:59:03 pm »
Hi everyone.

This might seem like a pretty stupid question... but I bought this old French oscilloscope a while ago for 15 euros (~20 dollars) and I'm not sure how to connect/configure it without potentially destroying it.

It's a CRC OCT 568 (similar model with pictures here: http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/crc_oscillographe_transistor.html)
You can find more pictures here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/a7ipvpzushei3mk/AAB2kgqskPMseio2pns_Rbtha?dl=0
It seems to have a lot of options to power it up:
- AC 110/127V
- AC 220V ---> the one I want to use
- "Batterie"

It has 3 fuses in the back, I measured them all and they're still OK.
This looks like a beautiful piece of "vintage" hardware and I would love to see it working!
Anyone got any ideas on how to connect&configure this for AC 220V?

Welcome to the forum.

Did you get in the same country you are from? Put your country flag in your profile.
Ask the seller what voltage it was set for.

With old equipment it's always best to get a Service manual if you ever need to fix it which is highly likely.

Post pics of the voltage selector options,

Thanks.

Actually my grandpa got it for me, in my own country. It should've been set for the correct voltage...
The previous owner didn't know very much about it, he didn't even know if it worked.

I can't really seem to find much about this oscilloscope.. do you happen to know where to search for service manuals?

I have added a picture of the voltage selector to the dropbox album. I think it's set to 220V, but when I plug it in and crank up the intensity, I can't see anything on the display. Are there any voltages that I can/should measure?

There are many links for manuals in the sticky thread in the Repair board.
Google searches are normally the quickest, but results are very dependant on your keywords.

Thanks for the help. I searched all the links in the sticky thread for my oscilloscope but haven't found anything.
Can't find manuals on Google or even eBay.
I guess this is one exotic piece of equipment :) I'll mess around with it a bit more and see if I can get it to work.

Be aware old equipment should be powered up "gently" over some time to let E-caps reform.
Variac or light bulb in series is normally used.
Take at least an hour or two.
