Title: Bryman 786 continuity test feels slow
Post by: Gedc on May 28, 2024, 05:48:07 am
Hi. First post & first 'proper' meter.

Been using a $15 jaycar cheapo for last 10 years. Really basic continuity and voltage testing. Still very new to the functions of the BM786 but the continuity mode feels way off.

On my old digitech QM1523 it's instantaneous and i can tap it on and off and it beeps on and off. On the Bryman it feels like half a second before the numbers on the display drop to 0.0006 then it beeps and flashes. Maybe this is the new norm and i'll get used to it or have i mixed up some setting / switch ?

Thanks for the help

Ged

And as a follow up for other newbies - just looked at the instructions again and it appears continuity is above the ohms setting.. Not on the diode setting like my last meter.  RTFM and welcome to the forum.

Thanks

What about the probes? Are those in good condition?

I'm not sure about the half-a-second delay, but I did notice that the Bryman as well as my Fluke were somewhat slower to respond to a continuity test that one of the much older multimeters I was using. I think the old multimeter had probes directly wired to the beeper or something because you could literally hear the probe metal tips grinding against each other. The response was pretty much instantaneous, but on the more modern multimeters it takes a few moments.

That's because it is annoyingly slow (IMO), one of the negatives of the 786.
