All seems fine with the transformers now.I cracked open the dead one and found it had shorted where the winding just come out to connect to the post.I'll rewind it sometime when I,m bored.
I made the appropriate alterations to the circuit.
Any way, good news The amp meter doesn't require a shunt and the rest of circuit works to a point.The 2N3055's will sustain 4 amps which is what I wanted
But it seems I'm having another problem.When I turn up the amps to around 2 amps at 30 volts, the voltage adjust pot burns out.Then the unit kicks right up to 4 amps and stays there and the voltage shoots up to 38 volts .This happened during the load test .Nothing heats up at the power transistors (silver lining) . This happened before at lower amps before I put in Q1.
Really disapointed because it was one of my favorite Beckman helipots. Bummer.
I suspect It may be Q1.
