Mastech MS8228 Multimeter ownership: No English Manual Provided
« on: January 24, 2014, 04:30:36 pm »
Hello:

I'd like to introduce myself

I am new to this forum. I possess little to none formal understanding of circuits per se. I possess some (and on occasion) common sense, logic, and an ability to communicate politely. I also have an advanced degree in Quantitative methods applied to human behavior from the University of California. I am currently semi retired and am the owner of a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). This means I grow stuff and people like it enough to buy it from me. I have a 5+ acre ranch in Southern California where my wife and I breed dogs for the Confirmation Show Ring. My Wife trains horses and people. I have a robust interest in machining and woodworking. I like to build stuff with my machines.

Although my Father was an electrical engineer, I have no experience in electrical engineering although I find it fascinating. Most recently my brush with engineering comes from my area of education where some folks model the function of neurons using electrical engineering.

That's my intro as it is.

I need help today.

I just received a new Multimeter.

That is to say I need help a new Mastech MS8228. The user/operations manual is printed in Chinese. I cannot find a version in english on the web.

Although this may sound strange, I purchased it to help me with my Garden to analyze soil, temp, and humidity (etc.). I don't know if anyone has this Multimeter along with the knowledge to break down how to use it. If I can get enough direction I can devise a way to answer the questions I have. I will contact MASTECH support to see if they can't send me an English version of the manual. I am ASSuming this is a better place to get guidance. Perhaps there is a model with an english manual that is close enough to provide the basics.

At least I have some experience and use of a Multimeter. I have a Harbor Freight multimeter with the english manual so I am not entirely in the dark. I have used it enough to know that I can. However, although it is a real possibility that the HF model is manufactured by Mastech, The meter itself is nothing like the complications offered by the MS8228.

As I said, I have researched human behavior applying a breadth in Quantitative Analysis. Ostensibly, I can sometimes have enough logic to analyze stuff scientifically (according to my professors in grad school).

I have also spent a lot of time in construction. I have a General Contractor's license. I have done some electrical work on wiring my machine shop as well as houses. I suspect the utility of this Multimeter goes way beyond what I used one for in the trades! I include this information  to help you guys understand why at least I think using this meter well is a valid contention.

If anyone has a link, or knowledge of a thread, or a primer in the use of the MS8228 or a similar unit, I hope you help me.

Thank you much in advance,

Jon

I googled MS8228, clicked on third link, then clicked on "PDF"

Thanks for the response. I hope that soon I'll have something to contribute here as I learn more on the meters use.
