Can measuring over limit with DC amp clamp wreck it?

Before I had a proper degaussing wand I used to use the back end of a Weller soldering gun. Pull the trigger, move it up close to the object, then back it away and release the trigger.

Thanks guys. I've seen some videos of people doing it online. Just curious why they do it for only a split second at a time? Will doing it longer damage the unit?

Bump

Idea is to reverse the magnetic polarity of the iron inside the clamp back to a non magnetic polarity. They do it for a split second as to not over shoot and defeat the purpose of deguassing the iron inside the clamp.
It's like when you take a magnet and brush it a against a screw driver .It makes the screw driver magnetic. Reverse the polarity of the magnetic and brush the screw driver again and it demagnetizes the screw driver. to many time s and it magnetizes again but in the opposite  polarity.
And no it won't damage the clamp meter it held to long but you could over shoot and simply reverse the polarity to far and re magnetize the clamp. There by defeating the purpose of deguassing.
