circuit voltage drop simulator
« on: November 16, 2016, 09:11:49 am »
hi all

i am wanting to design a power cuircit and am needing to factor the voltage drop into it for multiple tap out points for multiple loads, the loads and tap out points are at varying distances from eachother, and are all fed from the same supply.

i am wanting to know i there is a program that allows me to design the circuit, and then enter the cable properties and the power draws and it will tell me the drops at various tap out points.

i have tried to google for something, but all i can find is drop calculators and general design software.

any suggestions?

Jason

I dont believe it exists exactly in the flavour your hoping for,

Software like kicad can give you trace length between 2 segments, which you can then throw into a normal calc, or you could even use excel if your only using a few trace widths,

Pretty much you would use a normal trace calculator to find the resistance for the length, and then figure out your drop based on that.

I do agree functions like this would be nice, however i have yet to see them first hand

It would be possible to model the circuit in LTSPICE, entering each wire of each cable as a resistor, with a value given by a user defined function of the wire size and length that calculated the resistance of that wire.

hmmm, i guess i will break out the calculator and do it manually. was just hoping to be able to adjust the parameters more on-the-fly to minimize the calcs.

oh well.

cheers
