I would like to have a simply circuit to turn off a load until the device is power cycled when a battery voltage is below a threshold value. This is to protect the battery from being deeply discharged. Ideally when the power is turned on just from connecting a battery to the circuit and stay on until either the power is removed or the battery voltage is too low. I would like to avoid using a relay and to use a mosfet switch instead to save power. The total power consumed will be between 0.5 to 1 amp. with a nominal 12V supply (really anywhere from 9 > V > 17. If it would simplify the circuit I'm open to adding switch to turn it on. I have ideas of how to do it with a micro controller or switch and comparator, but are there any simpler ways using only passive components other than the mosfet switch?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
