cap electrolyte leakage
« on: December 05, 2021, 12:59:52 pm »
Hi all i just wondered what the main mechanism is that makes caps leak there guts,i assume mainly heat leading to pressure?,ie if i have a cap thats leaked in an smps what is better to replace it with to help stop ir happening again?,ie higher voltage rated cap,im not talking about low esr variants,i ssume heat is the main cause,ie bigger fans and better airflow?,do electrolytics exist with heatsinks?.

Heat is not good for electrolytics.
Most are only rated for 85 celcius, while the better ones are rated to 105 celcius, or sometimes even higher.

ESR is an important factor because high ESR leads to internal heating.

Yet another factor is external heat. Try to keep these things away from heatsinks that get hot.
