Capacitor damaged?
« on: May 27, 2017, 02:46:26 pm »
Hi,

I noticed a kink in the housing of one of the capacitors, it is from a (new) gpu, card works fine. Can someone with experience please tell me if it is damaged or purely a cosmetic thing.

Thank you

Jim Lewis says that if you even drop an electrolytic capacitor on the floor, you shouldn't use it.  Practically, I've had caps with major dents that have run for years.

The card is in a passively cooled system, I am going to do one final mount and then don't want to touch it again for at least 5 years. If I were to replace them am I correct in assuming it is a 2.5v 820µF cap?

If the card is working, leave it be. Given that the PCB is likely a 8+ multilayer, you might damage the board trying to desolder this cap. Not worth taking the risk IMHO.
