Change switch on Velleman decision maker
« on: February 22, 2024, 12:12:05 am »
Hi all I'm hoping you can help I really want to change the switch on the velleman decision maker to a momentary switch. Is there anyway this would be possible

Here is the kit

And I want to change it to this 2 prong switch as I want to put this into a 3d printed box

Any help would be hugely appreciated

That's easy enough to do when you first build the kit.   If you check the supplied switch with a multimeter, you'll find that its four pins are permanently connected in two pairs then when you press it all four pins connect together.   You'll need to look at the PCB layout to see which two pins to connect the external switch wires to.  Worst case you may have to add fixed wire links to join the pads the switch normally permanently connects.   If you've already built it its not so easy.  I'd leave the switch and connect your external one in parallel.  Reading the assembly guide, It looks like the best places top-side to hook up to are the red wire from the battery, and the anode (no stripe) end of D1.

Thanks so much for getting back to me. I've attached images of the PCB. Am I right in thinking how I've highlighted it would be the correct way? Sorry for such a silly question
