I think everyone missed the right idea... I think the diagonal stripes of solder protect the trace for a period of time while the solder heats up it will absorb heat from the trace and while the solder changes from solid to liquid phases it will absorb heat from the trace, thus protecting the trace or giving it some surge ability.  Anyone think that is the right reasoning?

It can only absorb heat energy once, not continuously dissipated heat power.  And this happens at a temperature much too high for operating conditions.

PLUS, having solder anywhere NEAR a melt stage is seriously dangerous ! Imagine in a device subject to vibration etc For any (most) designs, you don't want ANY
temperatures above 60-70deg, definitely under 90deg, which is a long way from solder melt point.
