Hermaphrodite pin headers

I'm struggling finding some pin headers like the ones in Arduinos. What I'm looking for is basically a fusion of a socket pin header and a plug pin header, with a socket on a side and a plug on the other side of the board. In other word, it is simply a socket pin header with longer solder pins so that they poke out on the other side. It doesn't seem to exist however.

Or else, how could I make one with normal pin headers? How are the commonly made and why are they so hard to find?

Try adding the keyword "wirewrap" to your search.

Long before Arduino was even dreamed of by its creators, hardware developers built prototypes using wirewrapping, which needed long pins on all sockets, headers etc. protruding through the solder side of the board.  Unfortunately, with higher clock frequencies and the gradual death of the DIL IC package, wirewrapping has gone the way of the dinosaurs.

The double row version was popular as the PC/104 spec, and a couple of decades ago were all the rage for dev boards with stackable boards on top - I guess they still are as its what the Arduino uses.
