Complete noob to electronics needs some helpful advice
« on: January 24, 2019, 10:53:01 pm »
Hello all,

This is my first post on this website. I've searched the forums but couldn't find anything related to what I am after.

To cut a long story short, I need to find out what power (3v, 5v or 12v) goes into which connector on this thing. You can see the PCI-E like connector at the top of the PCB. It's from a HP DL380 Gen9 Server. I don't have the server so I can't 'plug it into a server and find out'  :-//

This is the power cable that is used is this

I have a multimeter (Amprobe DM9C) which I got at a car boot sale. I don't really know how to use it though.

Does anyone know how I can find out what I need?

Thanks in advance

It’ll be 12 V see PCIE 6 pin power

Flip over the PCB to see which pins are gnd or measure them with low ohms.

You may or may not have a “ sense” pin

Thanks guys for getting back to me. it's not really a PCI-E connector, it just looks so flaming similar.

That being said, the part that goes to the system board is just a flat connector with 5 pins. I just wish there was someone who had a Gen9 server |O
