Component identification

(1/1)

lthrelfall:
Hello,

Can anyone tell me what this damaged component is in the attached photo, its on the logic board of a iMac 14,2?
I can't see any part number on it, but expect its the same as the undamaged one on the left, the connector below goes to the left hand speaker.

Any help is appreciated.

Common mode choke.

David Hess:
A agree; it looks like a common mode choke to protect against RFI which is a real problem with audio amplifier outputs.

lthrelfall:
Thanks for the replys,

Is it normal for there to be no id number on them? do you think its worth unsoldering the good one to see if theres any code on the underside?

Best,

Absence of marking is pretty normal. You could measure inductance and find a similar part. Replacing it with 2 separate ferrite beads would work too. Even using 2 jumpers would work, although there would be more RF emissions from the laptop.
