Fluke 87V problem
« on: July 25, 2013, 05:40:04 am »
I have just bought Fluke 87V. In Ohm measurement function, when I touch 2 probes together, 87V's screen shows 0.2 ohm.
I think it supposes to be 0 ohm. Is there anything wrong with my 87V ?
thank you. sorry for my English.

Hi - No that's fully OK - because you are reading the overall resistance of your Probe attached to the Meter.
You can Delta out that reading if needed.

"Yeah, but no, but yeah, but no..."

Yep and also you are getting some resistance from any contamination on the probe jacks and tips. I picked up a used 87 that read .24 ohm when tips were touched. I cleaned the probes tips and banana plugs with IPA and also cleaned the meter's female banana jacks with IPA and afterwards they read at .11 ohm.

As this is a cat4 meter, are your leads fused perhaps? these will always have a noticable resistance that you need to zero out.
