Component Purpose from schematic
« on: January 13, 2022, 03:14:43 am »
Wondering if some of you with more experience and electronic education than I might take a look at this schematic and tell me what the function of the circled 10k variable resistor is.

This is a plate amplifier for a speaker that has a built-in subwoofer (B&W 605 S2).

I’m guessing it has something to do with standby power on sensitivity; in auto the amp powers up when it senses a signal. But I’d love to know as I have repaired a few of these and bench checked a total of six of them and no two have that VR anywhere near the same setting.

Thanks,
Jeff

I think it is a part of a compression circuit to prevent clipping/distortion. The turn on circuit appears to be top center. It goes to mute and standby inputs of the amps.

agree, it looks like some sort of AGC. The pot sets the gain of the AGC...
