Confusion over two types of Fluke OC4USB USB Interface Cables
(1/1)
ColdSteel:
Hello again members.
I have noticed there are two types of Fluke OC4USB USB Interface Cables.
Check out the picture and questions below.
Both of these cables are marketed as OC4USB at times. Sometimes the one in the first picture is also marketed as IR (Infrared) OC4USB whilst the last one is marketed as Optical OC4USB.
Then I find a vague reference to a Fluke website where one member mentions Revision 1 and Revision 2, but never actually explicitly details nor supplies any pictures as references.
Sometimes I can find each one of the cables clearly detailing how they support 120 and 190 scopes. However, in no time did I find a clear view of the one in the first picture (the one with the yellow writing) showing the actual "two led lights" (or whatever the hell they are) or the same connections as the most commonly found last picture. Hence the confusion if some sellers online have confused one type of connection with another, yet I find no evidence of this other than my lack of knowledge on everything Fluke and all their revisions and updates they release.
My questions are as follows:
- Are both of these cables literally the same thing, apart from looks?
- Can both cables fit the Fluke 120 and 190 series scopes via USB without any further adapters or what-have-you?
I can only assume the marketing words "infrared" and "optical" are actually referring to the exact same technology behind each.
Please excuse my n00bness. This is the Newbie category of the forum blog for a reason. :P
Thanks in advance.

I have the first pictured one. It's marked as Rev. II. It comes with the 289. No adapters are needed.

Bad news, I just received word back from an Aussie ebay seller that says the Revision 2 does not fit 120 and 190 series scopes. It is the 'same' (re: technology), but the actual connection is slightly different where it will not physically fit onto any of the 120 or 190 series scopes. So, once again Fluke were kind enough to profiteer racket. The seller said he receives plenty of the same questions as I, and he even tested the cable (Rev 2) on his own personal Fluke 123 scope, but it does not fit.
Here is the Aussie ebay seller listing: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=261077104739&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:AU:1123 (but it is Revision 2).
Oh well.
ColdSteel:
To continue the confusion, on the Fluke website it clearly expresses the Rev 2 is indeed compatable with the 120 and 190 series scopes. :/

Arggghh
I'm gonna dive in and test it out for myself. I will report back on this thread with actual firsthand confirmation if the Revision 2 OC4USB cable fits and works with the Fluke 123.

Digging up this old thread to let people know that the optical USB cable for the Fluke 289 (IR189USB rev. II) will "kinda" work with a Fluke 190 series I. The catch is that it won't physically attach, so you won't have a continous connection. You need to hold the optical end at the right spot over the scope connection. However, if you just want to transfer a few captured displays it works OK.
The way you hold the optical end is to have the "Fluke" logo facing the back side of the scope.
