Connecting smart lock over zigbee for IoT actions.

Now a days there are many smart locks available like kwikset, these locks have ability to connect through zigbee to offer more functionalities.

I want to develop a project on this, I visited manufacturer's web site but did not find any helpful information, like connecting smart lock through MCU over zigbee, sending commands and receiving response from lock etc. need help where should I start from, is it possible that without manufacturer's documentation I can connect to a smart lock and set code on it, perform lock and un-lock actions.

I'd guess it depends on your lock, if it's meant/marketed for custom user actions or not, if yes that would be documented.

You'd expect that to either be tightly specified if intended, or tightly protected if that's not meant to be a feature.

These locks are compatible with many security companies here in Canada like Vivint, Sasktel etc. we can simply pair /connect these locks with control box provided by security company, and then we can check state of lock, lock or unlock from remote location through application provided by security company.  There are number of different brands of such smart locks that can be connected with control box.

While visiting manufacturer's web site (http://www.kwikset.com/) I came to know that these lock have ability to pair with any zigbee based device to set the code and lock/unlock actions.
