Where to get started?!
« on: February 12, 2016, 01:10:47 am »
Hey everyone. Im new here although not new to the great eevblog youtube channel.
Ive been watching it for a few years, always great to watch but to be honest i dont understand most of what dave is talking about.

I have always been making little projects with all materials and following the saying "dont plug it in, take it apart"
Issue is i still dont understand most electronics.
I want to.

Can anyone help with this issue.
Where to start.
Tools are not much of an issue although apart from a trusty multimeter i have no test equipment.
I have basic components that ive been de soldering off random things.
Bought an arduino to build a vivarium habitat control unit but that was fairly simple as off the shelf plug in parts and scripts make it easier.

Ok im now rambling.

Please help spark this unsettled interest in electronics.

Thanks in advance, Dom.

I'd pick up the Art of Electronics, and go over their exercise. Try to use parts they cover in your own circuits. Pretty soon you will come up with a project you want to do based on the knowledge you gain.

the most basic unit is BJT, as Muxr say, get Art of Electronics and understand how it works, try to design by yourself some project using relays to turn on/off some light at home for example using BJTs.

after that I suggest to go for MOSFETS and then opamps...

If works, doesn't means it is right.

No the inverse. Learn electronics, make your own circuit and pcb, sell it on ebay.
If you try and take a cat apart to see how it works, the first thing you have on your hands is a nonworking cat.

I learned from small circuits to pretty decent MCU desing and now onto high speed design using nothing but internet. If you do a quick research you can find plenty on PDF on electronics. also there somethings called ''design guidelines'' that has gems of info here and there...but you have to be a keen researcher..well that my way....hope that way helpful...
