Controlling 6 Pole Brushless DC Motor

Hello,
I have 6 pole 300VDC brushless motor with hall effects.
Would BLDH-350A Controller work? Here is the datasheet for the BLD-750:
http://ican-motor.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/BLD-750.pdf
It seems like you can only choose between 2/4 poles. but on the BLDH-350A you have 4/8 poles.
What is the difference between open-loop control and closed loop control? is it the feedback from the halls?
Thanks.

Open-loop = no feedback
Closed-loop = feedback
