Graupner Polaron Wireless Module Project
« on: January 21, 2018, 03:36:58 pm »
I have a Graupner Polaron EX charger that I've been using for a few years. Graupner recently released a wireless module for the charger that piqued my interest. I knew this module had some limitations that I didn't like, such as being required to use an Android or iOS app and not being able to join an existing wifi network.

I went ahead and purchased the module, planning to reverse-engineer the communication between the charger and the module so I could create my own.

Some of the things I'd like to add:
- Join to an existing wifi network
- Integrated management webpage (replacing the app)
- Persistent datalogging
- Ability to backup/reload charing profiles

As a first step, I've taken a look inside the module. As expected, it's some variant on an ESP module.

Hello kelchm

Did you achieve anything with this? I just bought a Polaron Pro charger - will take a while until I get it. But cannot find the WIFI Module anywhere on sale. Thinking of at least DIY the original module, not sure if it needs some kind of firmware on the ESP though.
