Could someone explain me what happened ?
« on: December 10, 2024, 03:17:02 pm »
Hello I've assembled the first one and everything was okay but it was outside of the housing just for test etc.
The housing arrived so I've started the assembly and this happened....

I think the meter is rated for 10A and to damage it you have to have more than 10A going thru. The power supply is limited to 5A but the battery current isn't limited. So somehow the battery voltage is shorted thru the current measurement circuit.

If the housing is metal then something may be shorted.
Post some photos?

G'day kat1337,

Open up the damaged meter and have a look at the internal shunt as per coromonadalix's link.

You should be able to see quickly if the shunt has been cooked.

Yeah, a photo showing what exactly burnt would help explain what might have happened.

eg, shunt melted, or IC blew up.

I prefer the panel meters that have an external CT or Hall module for the current sense (instead of in series with the negative wire) they tend to be easier to deal with because they are isolated.
