Tektronix 2232 menu screens problem
« on: November 06, 2013, 07:26:43 pm »
Hi,

I bought this oscilloscope a while back but when i bought it I just checked that it turned on and that it showed a signal on the screen using the probe adjuntment lead on the front panel.  A few weeks ago I used it to test a signal generator and it seemed to be working fine but just today I noticed that it should have some information on the screen and show the menu, etc etc but i don't have that, I push the "display",  "Advance functions", etc buttons and nothing shows on the screen.

Is it possible that you can turn on and off this messages from the screen? if so, how can i turn them on? because I don't find a way to do it.  And if it's broken, what is your advice? what should I look for?

Thanks very much

Check that you haven't turned the beam intensity for the on-screen display down. The scope has a readout intensity control separate from the two trace beams. Locate the outer sleeve of the second rotary control up from the power on button. Turn it clockwise.  ;)

Thanks, but that's not it.  It was the first thing I checked and it does nothing, clockwise or counterclockwise :-(

Unfortunately that is the only way I can think of permanently disabling the on screen display. :-// :-BROKE

If the beam intensity for the on-screen display is not turned all the way down the menu should work.
If it not showing up something is broken and you have your first oscilloscope repair job.

Common issue with 22xx scopes. Its normally the lead to the intensity control a bad resistor or the pot itself but that normally is intermittent.
