Hello everyone,
I'm trying to get my head around the workflow for creating new components in altium and I have hit a bit of a block that I can't figure out how to search for the answer.
I am trying to create a custom led schematic symbol and pcb footprint. I have made the drawing of the led with the pins in the schematic editor. I have also created pcb footprint with through holes that shows up nicely in the pcb editor. They are associated together and seem to work fine in most regards.
The problem I am having is that when I connect wires from the anode and cathode of the led to my vcc and gnd nets in the schematic the pcb editor does not seem to understand the connection. I noticed this when trying to do a copper pour for the ground plane. The gnd pin gets the connection to the plane but the led pins do not. I am able to go into the netlist editor and manually assign the pins to net but it seems like there should be an easier way to do this. Am I missing a step somewhere or overlooking something obvious?
Any more specific details that could be needed just let me know.

Well, I think I figured out my mistake. It should have been obvious. I was looking for a way to map the pads to pins but it turns out they just need the same designators as the pins and everything works as expected :)

Yeah, pins are matched by designator. You can write in custom designators in the Map Pins... dialog, when selecting a footprint.
