Just a quick one: Grounding the DAC chip (LTC1450)
« on: April 03, 2014, 06:55:57 pm »
Hi all, just a quick one. All of the integrated DAC'a I've been working with had separate AGND and DGND connections - no problem whatsoever. Then there is this LTC1450 from Linear I have to use and it appears it has only one GND pin.

I have separate analog and digital ground planes connected only in one point, in the power supply section, and the question is : Should I connect this DAC to analog or digital ground? The datasheet doesn't say a thing about it, and I just don't want to end up with a huuuuge ground loop + second AGND-DGND connection point...  :-//
Safety note: Don't put all your enriched uranium hexafluoride in one bucket. Use at least two or three buckets and keep them in separate corners of the room. This will prevent the premature build-up of a critical mass.  ;)

In that case (and probably other cases) the planes should connect at the ADC instead of at the power supply.
