DC - DC converter module, buck
« on: April 26, 2016, 07:23:08 am »
I need three dc-dc modules which cah below specs:
1. Input: 12V-16.8V
2. Out1: 12V/5A
3. Out2: 12V/3A
4. Out3: 5V/2A

I had looked into net & found that below dc-dc are ok:
http://www.digikey.com/product-search/en?keywords=%20UWE-12%2F6-Q12PB-C

http://www.digikey.com/product-search/en?keywords=UWE-12%2F6-Q12PB-C

1. Problem I see, they are isolated. Can I short its Vin- & Vout-, & will it still work?

2. Do these dc-dc require external heat sinks, or provided system is at room temperature they will work?
In datasheet they have placed additoanl AL baseplate

1. Yes, you can short one of the outputs to one of the inputs on an isolated module to create a positive or negative supply reference to input gnd or Vin

2. Not normally, they are a module, you use use as is. It will have a max ambient operating temp though. So you will have to be under that. Looks like with that module you can buy the module with or without the base plate. If you get the base plate version the max op temp increases from 85C to 100C
